The Guinness Book of World Records has declared Chandra Bahadur Dangi of Nepal, who measures 21.5in, the new world’s shortest man. He is 2 inches shorter than the previous record holder, Junrey Balawing of the Philippines who stands 23.5in.
Representatives of the Guinness Book of World records took the measurement of the 72 year old Nepali man last week and officially declared him the shortest man alive after his height has been confirmed.
“The good news is that Chandra Bahadur Dangi is the world’s shortest living man,” announced Craig Glenday , the Guinness World Records editor-in-chief, after the official measurement was confirmed.
He also added that Dangi could be the oldest person to be awarded the shortest man record if he is indeed 72 years old. This is beside the fact that he’s height is currently the shortest measurement ever recorded by the Guinness Book.
Dangi lives in a remote Nepalese village and is unaware of the record until a timber merchant chanced upon him and decided to take his measurement. His record made him a celebrity not only in his village but in the whole Nepal.
“I am good. I feel happy. I want to travel around the world and spread the name of my country.”, said Dangi as he shows two framed certificates proclaiming him the world’s shortest man.
Dangi has never been to a doctor all his life and is unaware of the cause of his condition. He has five brothers and two sisters who are of normal sizes. He is unmarried and lives with one of his brothers.
