The Different kinds of Dental Veneers and how to choose the right one for you.
Dental veneers have become an increasingly popular alternative to whitening, the process involves having a layer made of a range of materials applied to the exterior or the teeth, modifying your smile, filling and small gaps or cracks you may have and overall improving the shape and colour of your teeth. Porcelain Veneers
Probably the most well kind of veneer, they are also the most expensive and permanent choice. However they will give the best results in terms of sheer aesthetics and the way that your smile will be so transformed you will wonder if its yourself looking back at you in the mirror. The upside to Porcelain is how long they will last you (from 7 – 20 years dependent on your lifestyle and dental hygiene routine), the other upside is that they look a lot better due to the preparation work that should be done by your dentist and the quality of the porcelain as a material for this purpose is very smooth looking and gives off a brilliant shade of white that will really make your smile stand out a mile. The downside of course is the expense and perp time with your dentist which involves having molds of your teeth taken and some initial alteration and drilling performed as to fit the veneers at a later date.
Composite Veneers
One of the more common choices of treatment mostly due to the fact that they are substantially cheaper and requires far less time spent in the dentist. They are normally used to make minor alterations to you smile and the effects will not be as dramatic as porcelain The process involves your dentist sculpting and molding usually during a single session at the surgery, albeit a longer session. The downsides to having Composite Veneers, however, are that they do not last as long as Porcelain Veneers and are not as resistant in regards to discoloration. But with a strict dental routine and a professional cleaning by your dentist, they can be expected to last a good number of years.
“Instant” Veneers
Somewhat of a hybrid between Porcelain and Composite Veneers, Instant veneers take the ease of application found with composites and the amazing brilliant look of porcelain by using a set of premade, not custom, tooth veneers in various arrays of shape, style and colour and will apply them to your teeth, doing his best throughout to match a natural and normal looking smile to you individually. The downsides are of course that this is a one-size-fits-all soloution and not custom made to you individually. However many people who have them comment on how happy they are and that they look just as good as full Porcelain Veneers.
When considering having dental veneers installed its worth taking down that some dentists are more experienced with individual types of veneer than others, some may not offer the one you wish to have. In which case its always important to ask you dentist whether he is able to meet your requirments.
