Let’s be completely honest with ourselves here, there isn’t really an occasion that is strictly “inappropriate” for cake, it can be used to light up any kind of event that you can think of, in fact we would go so far as to say that you could probably take a cake to a stag night and people will still appreciate it. So now that we have established that cake universally makes everything better, why are more occasions not celebrated with a cake? Well sometimes it feels like it wouldn’t fit but trust me, where there’s a will there’s a way and there are a whole host of events that it’s more acceptable than you think top serve up as slice of sponge.
After all, you can have a birthday celebration in a nightclub that comes with a cake, and that is the last place you would expect to find baked cake goodness as part of the celebration. And as far as we are concerned, this gives the green light for practically any occasion to have its own custom made cakes. So let’s take a look at a few examples that we think can cake can improve the event, despite what you think!
Hen party
Okay so you may not even really think of this as an event where you can even fit cake in but hear us out, when you have all gathered and before the night of excessive drinking and shenanigans starts (let’s face it we all know what a hen party consists of at this stage) you generally all get together to have a preliminary glass of wine and normally something to eat. Well why not pair that with the idea of serving the cake as a dessert and truly prepare yourself for the night that you are about to receive. For that extra step you can even find an “X-rated” novelty cake to really get the laughs and good times rolling.
Bear in mind that while most people want to line their stomachs before a night of consuming alcohol, they aren’t necessarily going to want to eat a whole load of food before you go out dancing and drink all night long, so maybe order a small, scaled down cake that gives everybody a small slice and is just another unique little twist that makes your hen party an event that stands out, even while you are all still sober and rational at that! So try it out for your own or for when you are arranging the next one of your friend’s hen parties.
Valentine’s Day
Nothing says “I love you” than getting the person of your desires something to eat. After all it’s probably down to our evolutionary process through history that we choose mates based on what they can offer us, which while it seems fickle, also seems to be doing us as a species pretty well over the past 10,000 years. In the same way that you would get a box of chocolates in the shape of a heart, why not try seeing what a local baker can do and see if they can prepare something on a similar scale, which not only declares your love for somebody on this special day but it also makes your gift unique and stand out and is potentially something that you will be able to look back on for years after with a fond memory of the time that you got a cake for Valentine’s Day. Cute, right?
This is, however something that might be better off for couples already in a relationship, after all if a random crush at school came up to you and just handing you a cake and then having to retreat and get on with the day might be slightly awkward.
Proposal
Yep, surprisingly just about everything to do with your wedding can be celebrated with a cake. As boring as those doses eventually become, there’s something about western culture and events being celebrated with cake it seems. Nevertheless it can be a sweet way to pop the question and will come as more out of the blue than anything else, it looks like “oh that’s cute, he ordered a cake” but in reality you are about to pop a potentially life changing and beautiful question, all the while they are completely clueless. A great answer to the question “how did he propose”.
